Dr. Ulrich Germing is Vice Head of the Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany. He is head of the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) working group in Düsseldorf, running the Düsseldorf MDS registry as a tool to focus on diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of myeloid malignancies. Dr. Germing has been involved in cytology of blood and marrow disease since the late 1980s, with his main interest developed to concentrate on diagnosis of MDS.

As a member of the Clinical Advisory Committee of the WHO for the classification of myeloid and lymphatic neoplasms, Dr. Germing is involved in the development of classification systems for MDS and related disorders. In addition, he acts as a central cytologic reviewer for the Düsseldorf MDS registry, the ELN registry, and for clinical trials. Together with colleagues from University of Göttingen, he created the German-Austrian-Suisse MDS working party with numerous cooperations in the field of MDS. Dr. Germing is author and coauthor of about 290 PubMed listed works.
